The Naming Ceremony is an occasion when a new birth is celebrated and your child is welcomed into the world surrounded by family and friends.
The Naming Ceremony gives special adults the chance to express their wishes and hopes for the child's future, and commit to supporting and nurturing the child. It also provides you, as the parent(s) with an opportunity to acknowledge your gratitude to grandparents, family, friends, and godparents (guardians or mentors) for their involvement in your child's life, and to share the wonder, joy and pride you feel.
The Naming Ceremony is quite simple and can be adjusted to suit your personal needs including single parent families:
Introduction and welcome to guests
Reading (poem)
Godparent (guardian or mentor) commitment
Giving the name
Reading (poem or song lyrics)
Final declaration
Signing of certificate (accompanied by music – optional)
